 ARTICLES OF ASSOCIATION - ASKERIS FAU 

ARTICLE 1: NAME AND PURPOSE 

1.1. Name: These articles of association are for the Foreldrenes Arbeidsutvalg (FAU) for Asker International School (the School), with organization number 915 165 4001. The organization shall be known as “ASKERIS FAU” (the FAU). 

1.2. Purpose: The purpose of the FAU is to represent the interests of the parent and guardian body, support the school's educational objectives, organize events, fundraise for the FAU and School activities, facilitate communication between parents and the school administration, and contribute to the school's community development. 

ARTICLE 2: STRUCTURE 

The FAU has three elements as described below. All elected positions are voluntary and attract no compensation. 

Parent And Guardian Body: Comprises all parents and guardians of students currently enrolled at Asker International School. 

The Council: Composed of one elected representative and deputy from each class. 

Executive Committee: Composed of a Chair, Deputy Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, Events Officer, Travel Officer, and Community Officer. These shall be registered with BRREG as board members. 

ARTICLE 3: ELECTIONS 

3.1. Election of Class Representatives and Deputies: One representative and one deputy from each class shall be elected annually by the parents and guardians of that class, at the start of the academic year, from the parents or guardians of that class. 

3.2. Election of Executive Committee: The Chair and Treasurer are elected in alternate years for a two-year term. The Deputy Chair and Secretary are elected in other alternate years for a two-year term. 

The Events Officer, Travel Officer, and Community Officer are elected annually. Candidates for the Executive Committee can be nominated from any part of the FAU but are elected by the Parent Council.

Candidates can only hold one Executive Committee position at the same time. Existing members of the Executive Committee can be re-elected any number of times consecutively. 

Candidates are elected by the Council at the General Meeting. 

ARTICLE 4: MEETINGS 

4.1. Council Monthly Meetings: The Council shall meet once per month during term times. All members of the Executive Committee and Elected Representatives or the Deputy Representatives are expected to attend. Any other parent or guardian may attend. A representative of the School leadership will be invited by the Chair to provide an update to the Council. 

4.2. General Meeting: The general meeting of the FAU shall be held in August each year to mark the formation of the Council and Executive Committee for the new academic year and to close the accounts from the previous academic year. 

4.3 Extraordinary General Meeting: An extraordinary general meeting can be called by the Executive Committee or by agreement of a minimum of 20% of the Council representatives. 

ARTICLE 5: ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

5.1 Elected Class Representatives And Deputies: 

Elected class representatives and deputies are responsible for: 

- collecting feedback from their classes and presenting this to the Council. 

- feeding back to their classes the outcomes of Council meetings and other Executive Committee meetings or actions. 

- organizing activities with their classes, such as class breakfasts, in close collaboration with the home-room teacher. 

- organizing parents and guardians in support of FAU activities. 

5.2. Chair: 

Preside over all meetings of the Council and Executive Committee. 

Set the agenda for meetings in consultation with the Secretary.

Represent the Council in interactions with the school administration, Board, Student Council and external entities. 

5.3. Deputy Chair: 

Assist the Chair in their duties. 

Act as Chair in the absence of the Chair. 

Oversee special projects as assigned by the Chair. 

Be specifically responsible for sponsorship opportunities that can be used to the advantage of the Council and the School. 

5.4. Treasurer: 

Manage the financial affairs of the Council. 

Prepare an annual budget and financial report. 

Ensure proper accounting records are maintained. 

5.5. Secretary: 

Keep accurate minutes of all meetings. 

Manage the Council's correspondence. 

Maintain records of the Council's activities. 

5.6. Events Officer: 

Plan and organize events for the school community eg Hallowe’en, Winter Concerts, 17.mai. Coordinate with volunteers and other stakeholders for successful event execution. Maintain a calendar of events.

5.7. Travel Officer: 

Support the School with assistance to ensure smooth access to parking facilities during certain times of year as requested by the School leadership. 

Ensure the use of public transport for students of the school is as effective and safe as possible. 

5.8. Community Officer: 

Serve as a liaison between parents and the school's academic staff, specifically Head Of Primary and Head of Secondary. 

Facilitate discussions and feedback on educational programs and initiatives. Actively engage with other schools and local government agencies. 

Coordinate the provision of a yearbook for teachers and students. 

ARTICLE 6: RESIGNATIONS 

Any member of the Council or Executive Committee may resign by giving written notice to the Chair or Deputy Chair. This will trigger the election process as stated above with the length of term being the remaining amount of the member who has resigned. 

ARTICLE 7: DECISION MAKING 

A quorum of 20% of the Council and Executive Committee is required for any vote. 

7.1 Amendments: These Articles of Association may be amended by a two-thirds majority vote of the Council members present at a general or extraordinary general meeting, provided that notice of the proposed amendment has been given at least two weeks prior to the meeting to a member of the Executive Committee 

7.2 Normal Business: The Council will approve resolutions made at meetings by majority vote. 

7.3 Personnel Changes: In the case of a loss of confidence in any member of the Council or Executive Committee a new election process may be triggered by a two-thirds majority vote. Provided that notice of the loss of confidence has been given at least two weeks prior to the meeting to a member of the Executive Committee.

ARTICLE 8: DISSOLUTION 

In the event of the dissolution of the Council, any remaining funds shall be donated to Asker International School for the benefit of the students.
